May 26, 2011 POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- On May 26, 2011, a special meeting of the Board of Fire Commissioners was held in order to bring the public up to speed on the 2012 budget process for the Fairview Fire District. A presentation was made by the Commission's Budget Committee, represented by Commissioner Bob Gephard. Commissioner Gephard expressed concern about potential gaps in the budget over the next few years. A presentation was then made by Local 2623, explaining the need for resources and staffing. Local 2623 also presented independent analysis of the budgeting process that was completed by a Certified Public Accountant, and expressed our concerns over how tax dollars have been allocated in recent years. Video of the meeting and presentation will be posted at a later date.

It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of past Fairview Volunteer Membr Phillip Anspach. Phil previously served as Captain of Fire Police. In addition, Phil was a Life Member of Fairview Fire Company, and an avid supporter of the Fire Service. Phil was always a welcomed sight when he visited the Firehouse. He Will be Missed.

At 0955 hours this morning Dutchess County 911 Dispatch Center dispatched Fairview 41-11 & 41-45, along with City of Poughkeepsie Engine 2 (57-12) to a report of a fire in a utility room and kitchen at a residence on Styvestandt Drive in the Bradley Village section of the Fire District.  Fairview firefighters arrived within 3 minutes of dispatch and called out with heavy smoke coming from the residence,  immediately requesting the fire be made a  2nd Alarm assignment.

The residence recieved heavy damage to the utility and kitchen areas of the residence, as well as heat and smoke damage in the remaining area of the structure.  Assisting on the 2nd Alarm was Arlington 32-11 (FAST Team),  Mobile Life Support ALS, the Town of Poughkeepsie Police,  Town of Poughkeepsie Water Department, Town of Poughkeepsie Building Department,  and The American Red Cross.

The Fire does not appear suspicious in nature and the fire is still under investigation.

Fairview firefighters were called to the scene of an auto accident on Tuesday April 12, 2011 shortly after 8am,  reporting injuries.  When firefighters arrived they found a 2 car rear-end collision in front of the Violet Avenue Sunoco with each vehicle having a sole driver occupant in each.  The driver of the rear car involved was out walking around reporting no injuries and the driver of the front car was still in his car reporting back pain unable to remove himself from his car.  The driver reporting this was assessed and it was determined to use the hydraulic rescue tools (Jaws of Life) to remove his driver's door  and the support member behind the door to properly treat and report him from his car for transport to the local hospital.

Upon this decision to extricate the vehicle's driver and his report of untolerable pain,  the incident commander requested DC911 dispatch to relocate an engine from the City of Poughkeepsie F.D. to the Fairview firehouse and an Advanced Life Ambulance from Mobile Life Support Services to the scene to assist.  The victim was extricated safely in about 10 minutes and then transported to St. Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY,  his injuries were not believed to be too serious.

The driver of the other vehicle refused medical treatment and transport.  The accident is under investigation by the Hyde Park Police Department.  Traffic was able to reroute through the parking lot adjacent to the accident scene.
