In The Community
Fairview's Professional Firefighters are active in the community both on and off duty. Local 2623 members donate time, money, and manpower to several causes and organizations whose values reflect that of the Fire Service and the IAFF. Not only are we firefighters, we are your sports coaches, fellow church members, friends, and neighbors. Below are the causes we actively support. Do you belong to an organziation in our area who needs support? Contact Local 2623. Email Muscular Dystrophy AssociationOur international union, the IAFF is the largest supporter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA). IAFF locals across the United States donated over $23.5 MIllion to MDA through fundraising efforts in 2006 alone. Christmas Toy Collection To ensure that every child has a chance to enjoy the holidays, Local 2623 collects new, unwrapped toys each year to distribute to needy children in the area. Toys collected are also forwarded to the United States Marine Corps. Reserve Toys for Tots Program. Food CollectionEach holiday season, Local 2623 members collect non parishable foods and make a donation to the local Not - For - Profit Organization, Food for Vets. This organization ensures that our veterans who may be less fortunate than some other families in the area are able to enjoy nutritious holiday meals. NYS Special Olympics Polar PlungeLocal 2623 members, each year, participate in the Hudson Valley Special Olympics' Polar Plunge at Camp Mariah in Fishkill to help raise fund for the New York State Special Olympics. The members jump into the lake at Camp Mariah in February along with members of the Special Olympics to show our support for their cause.
