Firefighters Participate in Live Fire Training
Updated On: Nov 18, 2009
11/12/2009- POUGHKEEPSIE, NY- Firefighters from Fairview, LaGrange, and Hyde Park Fire Departments participated in live fire training this evening at the Dutchess County Fire Training Center. Evolutions included fire suppression, search, ventilation and rescue. The departments worked together to cover the basic skills used at fires. This allowed experienced members, career and volunteer, to share their knowledge with newer firefighters.

In addition to the training, Local 2623 was able to use this opportunity to offer a unique opportunity to educate a district resident on what is expected of firefighters during a fire. The training session provided valuable first-hand information and experience into just what firefighters face as a normal part of their job. The goal of the session was to show "tax-dollars at work." Firefighting is a physically demanding, carefully executed job that requires several teams of firefighters completing a wide variety of tasks in concert with one another to ensure a safe, effective operation. With a firsthand look at the operation, we are able to offer real-world facts to back up our staffing, funding, and equipment concerns.

We invite all district residents and taxpayers to come to the fire station for a tour, to see the equipment, meet the firefighters, and ask questions. We are happy to provide tours, talk about what is expected in our profession, and provide as much information as possible about our jobs to ensure that our residents fully understand our capabilities and what is expected of us. Please feel free to stop by the fire station at 258 Violet Avenue and ask for a tour.
